Then on Thursday, March 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm, join us for an Artists Q & A. Guest Artists (TBA) will talk about how artists use color in different ways: to calm or to communicate or even to incite their viewers. Refreshments will be served.

Gallery 1: Just a Bit Quirky

Jean Bundy

Whether painting or writing, Jean Bundy employs the socio-political, quirky, and overlooked as her inspiration. Her use of colors works both visually and metaphorically, choosing hues that may coordinate or clash, but always bind together objectively. She has a writer’s knack for finding the essence of a topic. Her interests are wide-ranging and expansive, you might think her a bit eccentric, but Jean’s talent and passion is palpable. In her latest show, she examines topics that concern her – the environmental movement or politics, art history or friendship. Her expressive portraits and landscapes are always colorful and intriguing.

Gallery 2: Seeing Red

Barbara Brocklebank
has been influenced by the color red throughout her life. Red has both inspired her and provided a powerful push into experimentation and discovery. Her travels, particularly in Asia, introduced her to red as a rallying motivator to action and change. Text, calligraphy and music are also elements in her work.

For Tracy Mistichelli, seeing red equates to the Root Chakra or Muladhara, which is located in the base of the spine. Red is the color related to this Chakra which she says, grounds her and enables her to withstand challenges, which are plentiful in the art world.

Judith Luongo has a passion to create art which explores that which is “felt” but may remain unspoken in the ongoing search for meaning and connection to ourselves and to others.

Laurie Murray is passionate about color and for her it is very much a tool of her powerful,
expressive paintings. She states, “Red is exuberant: Dramatic sunsets, tropical flowers, bonfires. Yet, red rages at everything senseless and cruel. Outside of politics, red is emblematically me.”
