Palmetto Blend & Charleston's Gullah Recipes, a Black-owned company that sells all-natural premium seasoning blends and books about Gullah recipes and culture, announced today that it is launching its All-Natural Premium Seasoning Mix, available in single, double, five, and twelve-bottle packages. Palmetto Blend was founded in 2018 by Darren Campbell, a chef and entrepreneur, who was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina.

Campbell grew up eating in his grandmother's kitchen and recalls Fridays when she would cook fish and red rice dinners to raise money for their community church. "My grandma used the perfect measurements of various spices to bring out the flavor of everything she cooked. People lined up to experience that home-cooked flavor," Campbell says.

Palmetto Blend seasoning follows the Gullah tradition of making food with love by providing customers with a taste of southern soul in a bottle. "Whether it's seafood, meats, or vegetables, your taste buds will be dazzled by the flavors that my seasoning mix unleashes in your foods," says Campbell.

Chef Darren, well known for his rice dishes, is the author of Charleston's Gullah Recipes Cookbook, which features 50 favorite family recipes. These recipes emphasize Charleston's fresh seafood, such as shrimp and grits, and tasty desserts, such as sweet potato pie, along with traditional Sunday dinner favorites such as collard greens with fried chicken, and macaroni and cheese.

The Gullah are an African American ethnic group who predominantly live in the Lowcountry region of Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina, within the coastal plain and the Sea Islands. Due to their historical geographic isolation in the U.S., they have been able to preserve their language and rich African culture, including cuisine, which is based on fresh, local ingredients, many of which were originally brought with them from West Africa.

"Growing up in Charleston—the Gullah Capital City—allowed me the chance to enjoy real Gullah and southern dishes," he says. I couldn’t be more excited to bring this new product to market and continue to spread the rich Gullah heritage throughout Charleston and beyond.”

Customers can purchase products online via the company’s website or from one of 20 locations in and around Charleston selling its products. In 2021, Palmetto Blend & Charleston's Gullah Recipes partnered with a co-packer to scale production to manage increasing demand. Since then, Palmetto Blend has increased sales by nearly 250%.
