MARVIN Media LLC today announced its teaming up again with Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA) for another episode of Sound and Driven™—a series of short films featuring some of music’s most respected artists and producers as they take their records on the legendary car test. Historically, artists and producers would jump in a car and drive to give their finished record an intimate listen before giving it the final approval. This time, the setting is a Neptune Blue 2022 Porsche Taycan 4S with a Bose surround sound system with a total output of 710 watts and 14 individual controlled loudspeakers. Father-and-daughter musicians Dave Stewart and Kaya Stewart take a drive in the Taycan as they give their records “If Things Go South” and “Honey” the ultimate car test.
Sound and Driven™ follows a carefully curated selection of artists and producers on a journey around Los Angeles in a Porsche Taycan as they discuss the magic behind their collaboration. The curtain is pulled back as we learn about the inspiration behind the music, working together, how the record was made, and how they approached it creatively and technically.
For this fifth episode of Sound and Driven™, Porsche invites us to join singer and songwriter Kaya Stewart and musician, songwriter, record producer, and Kaya’s father, Dave Stewart, as the duo leave a recording session at the iconic Larrabee Studios in North Hollywood for a drive around Los Angeles, reflecting on their relationship as father and daughter, as well as their collaborative creative process on the track “If Things Go South.”
“My dad is my favorite person to work with,” says Kaya Stewart. “It was nice to have someone who totally understood from the start why I started making music.”
When it comes to the car test, specifically, they both agree on its vital role in the music-making process. “In the studio you have perfect sound and you’re altering everything and you think that’s it, but nothing is more exciting than running out to do the car test,” says Dave Stewart. “The car test becomes probably the most important test of how you know how the public are going to receive the music or the work that you’ve done.”
"A lot of the first time I hear my music is sitting in my driveway with a little notebook and it solidifies the end of the session," says Kaya Stewart further driving home the point that hearing music in the car is key before releasing new music.
Marvin Scott Jarrett, co-founder of MARVIN Media and executive producer of Sound and Driven added, “We are equally excited about collaborating with Porsche on the Sound and Driven series. Both Dave and Kaya are the perfect pair to highlight in Episode 5.”
Each of the eight, 10-minute episodes within the series will be featured on the Porsche Content Hub and social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook) with a reach of 37+ million, along with MARVIN’s website, YouTube, and social media channels.
