The countdown begins! We are one week away from Recovery on the Runway, an evening where fashion meets recovery, resilience, and empowerment. On Sunday, October 6, 2024, the Break Free Foundation will host its seventh semi-annual Recovery on the Runway at DCTV, located at 87 Lafayette Street in New York City. This immersive event highlights the intersection of fashion, mental health, sobriety, and breast cancer survivorship, and is sure to be an unforgettable evening of fashion, entertainment, and celebration.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with delicious mocktails crafted by Michael Toscano of Pathfinder, followed by the highly anticipated runway show at 6:00 p.m. The evening will feature incredible collections from designers committed to using fashion as a platform for advocacy, including Project Runway’s Nancy Volpe Beringer, who will showcase her innovative, sustainable designs, continuing her mission to advocate for inclusivity and adaptability in fashion. Her pieces, born from a desire to amplify unheard voices in the fashion world, prove that fashion can be both impactful and environmentally conscious.

Volpe Beringer is joined by fellow designers AnaOno, Andie Swim, BOLD Swim, Dmarxx Designs,Thistle and Spire, and Chablis Designs featuring the models from local non-profit, Just Us Teenz. These designers share a commitment to promoting inclusivity, mental health awareness, and breaking the stigma surrounding substance use and co-occurring disorders within the fashion industry and beyond.

Hosting this year’s show is Claire Comai, founder of Rehab Studios and a powerful voice in the “recovering out loud” community. With five years of sobriety, Claire is a fierce advocate for destigmatizing addiction and mental illness, using her work in fashion, branding, and creative direction as a platform to amplify this mission. Claire’s energy and dedication to recovery make her the perfect host for this celebration of strength and transformation.

Music for the evening will be provided by DJ Price I$ Right, a Brooklyn native with roots in Kingston, Jamaica, known for keeping dance floors packed worldwide. His musical talent and dynamic energy will set the perfect tone for the evening’s festivities.

This season’s Recovery on the Runway takes place on the eve of International Flat Day, highlighting a significant partnership between the Break Free Foundation and Flat Out Love, a nonprofit organization supporting breast cancer survivors who choose to live flat after a mastectomy. A majority of the models gracing the runway are members of Flat Out Love, showcasing their strength, beauty, and resilience.

Proceeds from the event will benefit both the Break Free Foundation and Flat Out Love, two organizations committed to supporting individuals on their unique recovery journeys—whether from substance use, mental health, or breast cancer.

Break Free Foundation Founder, Alexandra Nyman, expressed her excitement for the event: “Recovery on the Runway is more than a fashion show—it’s a movement. This event gives individuals the platform to share their recovery stories through fashion, and we are honored to celebrate all forms of recovery.”

This event is proudly supported by the New York State Office of Mental Health, Pathfinder, Clean Cause, fashion designer Nancy Volpe Beringer, The Sober Curator, NAMI NYC, Just Us Teenz, the Paul Mitchell School, Rehab Studios, and Sober is the New Cool—all of whom share our commitment to advocating for mental health, sobriety, and recovery.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of fashion, storytelling, and empowerment, where we break barriers, challenge stigma, and celebrate the beauty of recovery. Together, we can create a world where recovery is embraced, and every story is heard.
