Women in the Arts Foundation Announces 'Creative Journey' 2023 Exhibition

Women in the Arts Foundation, Inc. (WIA) now in its sixth decade, celebrates Women’s History Month 2023, bringing to Peekskill’s Field Gallery a multi-faceted exhibit of exuberant, powerful art highlighting the diversity, strength, creativity, and professionalism of women artists. Women’s history is human history and here, nature is venerated. The artists represented in this show have found ways to tell their myriad of stories through visual imagery made in a wide variety of materials ranging from painting, drawing, printmaking and collage to photography, sculpture, fiber art, and mixed media. We invite you to join us.

The Creative Journey 2023 exhibition will be held from March 4-29, 2023, with an opening reception on March 4th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The exhibit can be found at the mezzanine level of the Field Gallery within the Field Library at 4 Nelson Avenue in Peekskill, New York.

The gallery's hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Women in the Arts Foundation works to overcome discrimination against women artists. Founded in 1971 by famous artists, writers and other art world professionals, WIA quickly grew into a national organization. It Incorporated in 1973 as Women in the Arts Foundation, Inc. (WIA). Throughout its 53 years, WIA proved to be highly adaptable and creative in its ongoing efforts to change concepts and attitudes about women as professional artists. WIA has presented art by women in major landmark exhibitions at the New York Cultural Center in “Women Choose Women,” and the Brooklyn Museum in “Works on paper Women artists,” and later at the Queens Museum of Art, Queens College Art Center, Pace University, Artists Equity Broome Street Gallery, St. Francis College, Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery, Weill Cornell Medical Center, the Venezuelan Consulate, Brooklyn Botanic Garden and at the corporate headquarters of Citi, Johnson and Johnson, Schering-Plough and Nabisco Brands.  WIA was among the first organizations to sponsor a series of workshops “The Business of Art for Artists” initiating educational programs for artists for which it received an NEA grant. WIA conducts an ongoing Speakers Series of art luminaries, curators, and art world professionals and publishes the WIA Newsletter.
